Red Sox Yankees Baseball Rivalry

Google has updated its toolbar visible Page Rank algo, just as it does about three or four times each year, and the seo blogosphere is abuzz.  Has Google penalized sites which sell links?  Can these sites possible get their previous Page Rank back?  Has anything big really happened?  This is all about what the toolbar says and the perception that inspires.  The actually rankings have not changed all that much.
