Yankees Have Issues With State Farm David Ortiz/Babe Ruth Call Your Shot Promo
Monday, May 26th, 2008According to the New York Times, the New York Yankees are taking issue with a State Farm “Call Your Shot” promotion scheduled to be held at the All-Star Game at Yankees Stadium this July. State Farm has chosen Red Sox slugger David Ortiz to play the part of Babe Ruth and will attempt to predict which location he will hit a home run.
The promo is meant to pay homage to an urban legend where Babe Ruth is alleged to call his home run shot in the 1932 World Series. Film of the Ruth at bat shows that Ruth did not call his home run. The Yankees, MLB and State Farm may use a loophole in the contract to replace Ortiz or scrap the idea altogether.
